Am I A Bad/uncaring Supervisor

How do I handle it if my supervisors are big on emailing, but I forgot to check my email and she had been trying to contact me for hours?

I was away at a seminar for the morning and my department head had a hissy fit because she couldn't reach me to answer a question. When I returned to my office, I was subjected to a loud dressing down and being ordered to check my voice mail every thirty minutes when away from the office!I listened calmly, nodded to indicate I understood, and went on my way. Because she was prone to outbursts such as these, I was able to move on. However, over time, it took a toll on our working relationship. When she observed she could no longer elicit alarm or an emotional reaction, she labeled me as “cold" and “uncaring" when I was actually praying silently to myself for patience. The most important thing is to find the middle ground where you can function without attracting the supervisor's wrath.

If someone refers to you as an "aloof" person, is that a good, bad, or neutral thing?

Aloofs are often misunderstood just like those talented sportsmen who even after brilliant display do not hang out to celebrate . This type of attitude does not go down well with all those near by and they all come with their vivid explanations without realising that so - called ALOOFS do not get interested or show interest in common activities of day to day life . They value other things which are more important to them and they do not like to PLAY EMOTIONAL DRAMA in public. They percieve most things differently and have their own distinctive way of doing things.

What to do about an employee misusing sick days?

Simple. You're right - the company has to legally pay him for the sick day, but you should definitely call him in your office and let him know how badly this reflects on him. Issue fair warning that if he continues to misuse paid sick leave, that abuse will have to be documented in his file, and could affect future job performance evaluations, pay increases, or even his continuing with the company.

As unlikely as it sounds, it IS minutely possible that he just made a bad joke and then legitimately fell ill with extremely poor timing - so you may have to give him the benefit of the doubt if he takes that approach. But he needs to learn not to make such thoughtless and careless comments in the future. It does affect how others perceive him - including his management and those who have authority over his paycheck. And that much - innocent or not - he can and should understand.

Good luck to you -

Is Police Discretion a good or bad thing? What is your opinion?

If LE had to cite or arrest for every single offense we observed or had relayed to us, also known as following the letter of the law, I think society would crumble.

We would not any time to hunt the truly violent criminals that prey on society.

We have ALOT of laws to follow in our system. Those are enforced as needed to keep repeat offenders, dangerous offenders, uncaring offenders, etc. from hurting society. People basically need to police themselves, or we have to step in and do it for them. That's the basis for our "free" country. Its really "Do as you should, or pay the price."

I don't need to cite every person that rolls a stop sign, or has a little nickel bag on them. However, if I see them again, doing the same thing, or they have the attitude that they do not care and I am simply inconveniencing them for my own gain, then they will have to deal with the court system and hopefully learn a lesson.

Discretion is the key to LE.

Make sense?

I'm married but I think someone else likes me and I don't know what to feel or what to do about it.. Help?

Does anyone intend on being faithful anymore? You are married. Honor that commitment. Period.

Isn't the post office supposed to scan in a package when you drop it off even if it's "pre paid" online?

I'm a letter carrier, so I can't answer definitively about what the window clerks are supposed to do. But I wouldn't worry about it.

Why?

Because, in addition to the entry point scans - which may indeed be obviated by the fact that you've done the postage electronically - parcels are scanned once they arrive at the distribution center from the facility where they were dropped off. They are scanned again upon leaving the distribution center. I don't know how international shipments are handled, but I assume that they are scanned once more before going on the plane. What happens overseas is anyone's guess; it's different everywhere. But there's always the final scan. That final scan can always be blown by the delivery person, and sometimes it does, but there will be other scans along the way to let you know the progress.

One other thing: Ordinary Priority packages are not trackable, therefore, there is no scanning done. Only domestic delivery confirmation items, and all items requiring signature, have scannable tracking numbers. These are extra-fee services. If you don't buy them, there's no tracking. You didn't mention any of these services in your question.

Response to your edit: I repeat, you said nothing about purchasing an extra-fee option which would provide tracking. International Priority, by itself, is not trackable, and is not scanned. For international shipments, you can add Registered service, or send it EMS, both of which require signature at the delivery point, and have tracking.

I am a letter carrier. We do NOT scan packages into the system. We only scan items at the time of delivery, and enter a code for delivered, attempted, refused, or undeliverable as addressed.

We DO scan a sheet of paper with a bar code on it when picking up packages at a residence or business, upon customer request. We note on the sheet how many we picked up, or if the items were not picked up (and why not). A copy is left with the customer, and another is returned to the supervisor. BUT...this is NOT scanning of the packages. Only packages with tracking barcodes are scanned, and that is done by the receiving clerk after we bring them in. No barcode, no tracking service bought and paid for...no scanning.

Why is it not advisable to do a PhD from IITs?

Listen never pursue your PhD from any of the IITs. I have been there and believe me you don't want to go through the pain and sufferings we had gone through. You have no idea what teachers make us to do in class!Your peers will never even try to help you out of their ego. There is something that goes on over here in the branch I have been. No one wants to talk about it. You cannot even allegedly claim anyone charge of this because everyone and I mean everyone is involved in this!I cannot disclose the reasons so I am going anonymous.Better apply in foreign universities for PhD degree.
