On A Mac How To Automatically Save A Document To A Certain Folder

Can I make my macOS screenshots automatically save to the Photos app instead of the desktop?

There is no setting to do so. This sounds for like a job for Automator/AppleScript! Most Mac users don’t realise that they can create completely automated workflows.First open the Photos app and create a New Album, name it “Mac Screenshots” or whatever you’d like.Open the Automator app; you can find this in the Applications folder.Create a new document. When asked to choose a type, select Folder Action. Folder actions are workflow scripts that will automatically process files as they are added to a folder.Take a moment to familiarise yourself with the Automator window. A library of actions is displayed along the left. An empty space that will list your workflow of chained actions is on the right. We need to select a folder to attach our action to. There is a popup menu to the top right “Folder Action receives files and folders added to ”. Use this option to choose your Desktop folder. Now to add our first action. In the Action Library, select the Files & Folders group. Then look for “Filter Finder Items”. Double click on this to add the action. We can now configure this action to look for only screen shot files as follows: Find files where “All” of the following are true. “Name” “begins with”, then type “Screen Shot”.Now to tell our mac what to do with those screen shots. In the Action Library, select Photos. Then look for “Import Files into Photos”. Double click on this to add the action. To configure this action we use the first popup menu to add to existing top-level album. Then select our “Mac Screenshots” album. Also check the box to Skip checking for duplicates. Now save your automator workflow, name it something like”Import Screenshots to Photos”.You can now close automator.Try taking a screen shot to test the folder action. It will take a few seconds for the picture to be imported.

How do I make a rule in Mac OS to automatically move files based on text in the file name?

As Arthur Gomes mentioned, an Automator script is the best way to go. You cn then link the Automator script to a directory as a “Folder Action” so that all files dropped in that folder will be moved to their destination based on filename or you can create an “Automator Service” where you can click on the file(s), go to the Services menu and choose the action. If you would like to specify what you are trying to do, we can probably help you a little bit more specifically. I for example have a workflow where I drop a file with a specific naming convention into a folder that kicks off Automator, passes the results to a perl script and goes on from there.

Word for Mac saving all documents as 0 byte since yesterday?

I was working on some word documents yesterday and I realised once I had saved them that they had all saved as 0 Byte documents with no text. I have spent all day trying to recover them with no luck. I checked the autosave versions and they are all 0 Byte. I found what I think are older versions through MiniTool Data Recovery, but I am unable to open them as it says they are corrupt. l decided to start my document again, I have just saved it and it has done the same thing again. It is now a blank document 0 Bytes. I have also noticed a lot of a previous versions are saved as ~$ at the start as well. I am not sure what this is, if it is a virus on my mac, but it is really important I am either able to start again without it happening or recover the old documents/open the corrupt ones because it is coursework and my university dissertation that I am trying to work on.

I wish to save, automatically, my Dropbox files on a USB key and in the SSD of my MacBook. How can I achieve it?

The data will already sync to a folder on your Mac when you install the Dropbox client.  If you want to clone that Dropbox directory to a USB key when inserted, you can use any kind of sync software to sync the Dropbox directory to an external device. How To Sync Files and Folders on the Mac - ChrisWrites.com provides a list of methods, including MacDropAny.However, do NOT set Dropbox to sync to an external drive.  When the external drive is removed, Dropbox interprets that as "deleted all files" and erases them all from the cloud.

I cant find the FCCTEMP folder in my mac?

Emails are saved "automatically" (if your account preferences are set for that) to....
~ /Library /Mail /POP-server@domain.mail /INBOX.mbox /Messages
("POP-server@domain.mail" will vary with the account details)

If you are making an effort to save (by going to File > Save as), you choose the location. There is no FCCTEMP folder visible on any of my five Macs.

If you are using an email system at a company, school, college, or university, contact the tech support for that email system or the website of that company, school, college, or university.
